Abraham by J. C. Brown
"Abraham," a bronze sculpture by J. C. Brown showcased at Regency Parkway Art, is mounted on a wood pedestal and is approximately 10 inches high and 8 inches wide.
This sculpture is modeled after Abraham, the patriarch gorilla at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, and the late Murphy, also a captive gorilla at the zoo. This pieces was inspired by the book Ishmael, Daniel Quinn.
Abraham is a Western Lowland gorilla from the dense lush forests of equatorial West Africa. He is a silverback, the male leader of a troop of 5 to 20 gorillas. He is a powerful creature weighing 400 pounds, but is truly a gentle giant.
